Tea Corner @ Bodhi Meditation Center 菩提禅堂茶香斋

Tea Corner is a relatively new cafe, and aims to serve tea snacks as a way to raise funds for the center. The food and overall cafe ambiance gives a very warm, sincere and homely feeling. Their menu changes on a daily basis, and usually includes popular local tea snacks, such as curry puff, glutinous mushroom rice, steamed pumpkin cake, chwee kueh and cupcakes.

I bought some of the food home to try :P

Happy buns (also known as See Pan 喜板), a type of Hakka delicacy, made in pumpkin and pandan flavours

Pumpkin cake - with sliced mushrooms and pumpkin as well as minced mock meat

The cafe is open everyday of the week, and has friendly and cheerful servers (volunteers) that are readily available to attend to your queries/ needs. You can also talk to them about meditation and the courses that the center conducts.

Drop by if you would like to just unwind for a while or learn more about meditation :)

GRUB Cafe - Portobello Mushroom Burger!

Jerome and I were strolling along the Bishan-AMK Park one Saturday afternoon and we chanced upon the GRUB cafe.

We chose to dine at the cafe because of the nice atmosphere and that the food was reasonably priced (generally below $20). Vegetarian food choices were limited, as denoted by the leaves icons in the menu below.

Note that the prices in the menu have not included GST and service charge.

We ordered Portobello Mushroom Burger ($11+), topped with egg ($2+) and sauteed mushroom ($3+). The burger came with fries, and the egg was sunny-side up added inside the burger. Sauteed mushrooms came as a side dish, and the portion was generous - I believe it is equivalent to the amount of mushroom in a typical mushroom pasta dish we buy elsewhere. Mushrooms add-on is recommended for vegetarians as they contain Vitamin B12.

On the whole, the food was simple but delicious.

We approached a couple of wait staff on various queries and all of them were friendly and helpful.

The cafe offers outdoor seating, and has kindly provided mosquitoes repellent for customers who would prefer to sit outside. If you're dining there, I would suggest outdoor seating, as it's nicer to dine near nature than in a typical enclosed air-conditioned environment. It is also beautiful to have dinner at GRUB over sunset.

Conclusion:
The cafe provides a nice ambiance and food is reasonable in terms of price and quality.

Veggie Eats: Ci Yan Vegetarian Restaurant

Article Written By Ada:

Ci Yan Vegetarian Restaurant is a simple vegetarian restaurant located in Chinatown, situated just beside the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple (between Chinatown, Outram and Tanjong Pagar MRT).

The restaurant displays many beautiful Thangkas and Buddha artifacts and simply sitting there will make one feel at ease and peaceful.

The menu changes on a daily basis, and the dishes served generally feels like home-cooked food. Price is quite reasonable too, it costs between seven to ten to get a bowl of noodles/ rice. The last time I was there, I had Bak Kut Teh noodles, curry Udon and white fungus dessert. All the dishes were quite tasty :)

If you're working in the area, you may like to drop by to calm your mind over lunch. The owners are very friendly too, you can chat them up easily if you like :)
